(too old to reply)

Just got my bowling ball today. Does anyone know if lower side of Rolla Bolla board
suppose to be be covered with non slippery stuff?
Who sells this non slippery paper or film?

Bowling ball is WAY too slippery on a plywood board and "shoots out" from under the
board easily.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

How about some rubber matting, or perhaps even carpet offcuts?

I would think that would get too squishy. It's been years since I've done a
rolo bolla on a bowlingball, and I cant remember what was under the board.
However I suspect it was this type of grip tape. This is a hard trick and
some of the "Shoots off" feeling is because of the 2 degrees of roll of a
ball vs. a tube

Brian what do you mean by 2 degrees of roll? Can you give us more details? It's a hard
trick and I can use all help I can get. There is practically nothing available on
Internet about bowling ball balancing.
I tried to balance on a bowling ball today without anti-slipping tape but with two
spotters. The hardest part was to get on a board. About balancing itself... It feels
that I'll be able to learn it eventually. But getting on is HARD! Am I suppose to jump
on it or step with one foot while keeping my hand on opposite side of the board for
balance? I think this is what I saw people do on Rolla Bolling on two rolls.

I got it! You meant 2 degrees of movement another words - 2 axis?

To mount, have the spotters hold the ends of the board with both hands.
Step up near the center with one foot and your hands on their shoulders.
Set the second foot the same distance from the center. Slide both feet
out to the distance you want (I want shoulder width). Have the spotters
gently release the board. Lighten your dependence on the spotters as
(if) you get comfortable ;-) Circus Boy (aka Bobby Hunt) uses two
audience volunteers to very good result for this with a 4 tube stack.
Stacked as seen at http://circusboy.com.

A very good step towards learning the ball is to set up a rola bola as
usual - then stand on it at right angles to the tube. I think you will
find that a different technique is needed for the corrections. Instead
of changing your weight from one foot to the other (or heel to toe) I
have to push and pull the board with my feet. Sit in a chair with
rollers then try to move if you do not follow my clumsy directions.

Please do this next to a suitable support until you get it solid enough
to juggle comfortably.

To free mount this type of bola, stand to one side of the center,
parallel to the board. Place the first foot on the center of the board
while leveling it. The foot on the ground needs to be in line with the
end of the tube. Now slowly shift all your weight onto the foot on the
board and lift the other foot on board. Jumping/jerky movement will
almost always yield disastrous results - trust me!

My personal best on a 4 tube stack is 270 catches with 3 balls. (And no,
I do not do it in a show).

On carpet my bowling ball will shoot from under me with supersonic speed :)
Ball is polished and very slippery. I'll probably sand it so it's less slippery.

I was meaning carpet or matting fixed to the bottom of the board.
Basically, what you want is to have controllable roll and no
uncontrollable slippage. I would have thought that the extra squishyness
that Brian was saying was a problem, might be beneficial in this
situation. I could very easily be wrong though - I've only ever done
normal rola bola-ing.

I use the blue rubber matting from Ikea. It is used to line kitchen draws.
Alex did you talk to me about this at chockfest?

Got some Grip Tape today. It grips the ball all right but it also eats it like there is
no tomorrow. Grip Tape is just like aggressive sand paper. After 2 minutes on a ball
grip tape ground some flat spots on the ball. Ripped it off the board and will try
drawer lining tomorrow unless someone has a better idea.
